How to copy a Discord server (channels, roles and permissions)

You can copy a Discord server's layout (its categories, channels, roles and permissions) into a new server in a few minutes. Messages and members never come along. Here are the two ways to do it.

Copy a Discord server with a server template

  • In the server you want to copy, open Server Settings → Server Template (you need Manage Server).
  • Generate the template link, then open it yourself or share it.
  • Discord creates a new server from it with the same channels, roles, permissions and settings.
  • If you change the original later, press Sync Template so the link copies the new version.

What a copy leaves out

  • Messages and members: the new server starts empty.
  • Bots: add them again in the new server.
  • Anything a bot set up, like role pickers, welcome messages and logs.

Copy a Discord server and change it first, with Foreman

Run /export in the server you want to copy and press Open in Builder: the whole layout opens at arsforeman.com. Change anything you like, save it, then run /deploy with its code in the new server. Foreman builds the channels, roles and permissions, plus anything you add in the Builder: welcome messages, role pickers, AutoMod and onboarding. Deploying a blueprint is a one-time unlock, or included on a Foreman Pro server.

Keep it up to date after copying

A Discord template link is a one-time copy. With Foreman the blueprint stays: change it later and push to update the server, and use Pull from Discord to bring in changes made in Discord.
